Tackling back-to-school anxiety

At Bop Till You Drop, building children’s confidence and ensuring they are happy is at the core of everything we do.

So when we found this article on Beyond Blue about Tackling back-to-school anxiety, we just had to share it with our wonderful parents and community.

Here are some great tips if your little one is starting school for the first time

  1. Have a few ‘dry runs’ of the trip to and from school so your child is familiar with the route and what to expect.
  2. Set up some playdates in the holidays with local kids who are also starting school so they see some familiar faces on day one.
  3. Visit the school – check out the playground, find their classroom and have a wander round so they can get used to where things are.
  4. Invent a fun routine to make saying goodbye a bit easier – try a high-five, bear hug or secret handshake.
  5. Talk positively about the day ahead on the way to school and remind your child where you’ll be at pick-up time.
  6. Drawn-out goodbyes can be upsetting, especially if other kids are getting emotional. Once your child is settled in their classroom, give them some final positive reassurance and beat a hasty retreat.
  7. Try to limit other activities during the first few weeks – the transition to school can be tiring and kids need down time.
  8. Schedule a family celebration or a Skype call from grandparents on the weekend to mark the milestone – after all, starting school is a pretty big deal!

  • Just a quick note to pass on our thanks for Emily’s Bop Till You Drop 5th Bday Disco party on the weekend. Lexi was amazing!! She kept the kids engaged and entertained throughout the whole party, and the disco was an absolute hit with the kids (and parents!). Lexi transformed our lounge room with her disco lights and everyone had a ball singing on the microphones, playing party games and showing off their best dance moves. The birthday girl was so happy her favourite songs were played and she felt the centre of attention. Also wonderful that even with her recently broken arm, Emily was able to join in all the games, singing, dancing and activities – in fact I think she completely forgot she had a broken arm! Have already heard from a number of parents that their kids would now like a disco party too. And of course Emily loved the party so much she wants to do the same thing next year! Thanks again.

  • Our daughter and her friends had the most wonderful time at her 5th Birthday party with the help of Bop till you Drop. Our gorgeous host kept all the kids engaged and partying on. We had so many compliments from friends on how good the entertainment was and how much fun they were all having.

  • We have just had the best school disco in years! All the kids enjoyed themselves and the energy and excitement from both Stacey and our students was amazing. All students from Kindy to Year 6 had a wonderful night, being able to get up on stage to dance and sing to their favourite song was great to see, Stacey did an amazing job! Thank you! We can’t wait to have BTYD back!

  • With almost 200 people in attendance at our annual children’s Christmas Picnic your energy and passion to get children and their parents up and dancing for almost three hours was outstanding. The mix of music, dancing, games and allowing the children to sing made the event so much fun. We would utilise your business again in a heartbeat!
